The description of an art village proved to be something of an exaggeration.  What I did find, however, was a noisy, eclectic mix of metal workshops, artists’ studios, bars and restaurants with the odd gallery.  It was loud, boisterous and very industrial - another world which instantly had me under its spell.

Michael Howarth is a photographer and house husband. He used to be a lecturer in French literature at University College London. In collaboration with the artist and writer, Brian Williams, he has made two films based on the work of Robert Pinget.
