SUBRAYADO NOCTURNO

Eliana Tomassini

SED / THIRST

Cada palabra es pista de una pregunta.
La pista sabe: el rompecabezas es imposible.
Son las piezas que iluminan y oscurecen,
encajan y no encajan. Así el latido.

A question hides behind every word, like a hint.
The hint knows: the puzzle is impossible.
It is the pieces themselves that illuminate and obscure,
the pieces that fit and do not fit. Such is the heart’s pulse.

HAMBRE / HUNGER

Un desierto anida en cada cuerpo.
Quizás en el centro de la garganta,
en el estómago, en algún otro órgano o
simplemente a veces no sea carne la carne.

A desert nests in each body. At the center
of the throat, the stomach, or another
organ. Perhaps flesh sometimes ceases to
be flesh.

CHIN CHIN

Fumo y escribo. Escribo y fumo. Exhalo
filamentos grises que se deslizan ágiles. Su
cuerpo su forma desaparecen en el aire
negro. Una fluidez de baile sentido, una
destreza única para la huida. Como este
poema: mi garganta sabe. Hoy entera la
noche. Abismo concentrado. Sólo cueva.
Énfasis. Tinta. Y tinto.

I smoke and write. I write and smoke. I
exhale gray filaments slipping swiftly
away. Their body, their shape disappear
into the black air. A dance fluidity,
uniquely gifted for escape. Like this poem:
my throat knows. Tonight, the whole
night. A concentrated abyss. Only cave.
Emphasis. Ink. And red wine.
