Combustione Plastica, 1957, by Alberto Burri.
I
A pigeon courts another, scooping her
around the cement in the park. The social
dies here to speak a different taal.
II
Her portrait had dimension, you could put your arm in. Her
foot in chairshadow, limned marble, wave
of combustion.
III
Ache with regularity.
Ache without. Breath heavy with
eyes warm at the candelabra,
plucked stems hiss
across orchards of distance,
nectarines of combustion.
V
Climb the combusting playground. The gilded
frame made from touches burnt.
Impress limberly from the wick
the anachronistic
hole it paints inside.
