Paris Sidewalk Idyll

Donna Fleischer

Paris Sidewalk Idyll

on a June day when
done with their work they
bit into the newly laid lead-
like slab of sidewalk the hand-
written date as month day and year
as it hardened as their sweat drying
dripped a century and more
rain- and sun-filled flashes
like quicksilver quivers
its craftsmen's song
